Japan in winter is magnificent…
…with utterly spectacular Steller’s Sea Eagles…
…Hokkaido’s dancing Red-crowned Cranes…
…and the charismatic Blakiston’s Fish Owl.
We’ll absorb an endless procession of evocative landscapes, both coastal….
..and interior…
…in which we’ll find the natural Japan including a wonderful collection of birds, some large like White-tailed Sea Eagle…
…and Hooded Cranes…
…and some small like Varied Tit…
…and Brown Shrike.
We will of course look at everything including snow monkeys warming themselves in a hot spring.
We’ll be constantly exposed to Japan’s rich culture, very much a part of everyday life…
…often very beautiful..
…and endlessly fascinating; here “wish boards” at a shrine.
Japan is a very sophisticated country with extensive air links
…first class roads…
…and an excellent marine infrastructure ; here Susan on our Hokkaido boat to look for sea eagles.
Our accommodations are comfortable…
..many have thermal baths (at least one of them magically outdoors)…
…and our food is never less than interesting.
We’ll leave the trip with a better sense of Japan and its people…
…with an appreciation for the land…
…and of course with many memories…
…of remarkable birds.
