Nick Moran

Nick started scribbling wildlife notes when he was six. Migrating north from inland North Yorkshire to Scotland and coastal Fife at the age of 18 rapidly expanded his opportunity and appetite for birding, and over the next 20 years he travelled and birded extensively in the UK, Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and South America.  Nick spent two years teaching Biology in Shanghai before moving to the UAE to lead the Biology department at the British School in Abu Dhabi, where he remained for five years. Nick returned to UK in 2009 to work for the British Trust for Ornithology running BirdTrack. He now does most of his birding in the Breckland area of East Anglia, where he lives with his wife and daughter. Helping other people find and appreciate birds and other wildlife has long been part of Nick’s relationship with the natural world. As a student in the 90s he spent two summers working as a wildlife guide in France; more recently he has led birding trips in China, the United Arab Emirates, Spain and the UK. Or to sum Nick up in rather fewer words via his @sconebirding Twitter profile “Mostly birds.
