Killian Mullarney lives in County Wexford, Ireland with his wife and three daughters. One of Europe’s best-known bird artists and identification experts, he co-authored the highly acclaimed Birds of Europe with Lars Svensson, Dan Zetterström, and the late Peter Grant. His work is also featured in the National Geographic Society’s Field Guide to Birds of North America and on an extensive series of bird stamps for Ireland, as well as in the important Sound Approach title, Petrels: Night and Day. Killian was a longstanding member of the Irish Rare Birds Committee, is part of the Sound Approach team, and a consulting editor at Dutch Birding.
I signed up for this trip mainly to work with Killian, as during multiple trips to Europe, I have used and come to highly respect his work in 'The Birds of Europe'. His intellectual understanding of species and migration patterns was top notch, but his artistic perception pushed things to an even higher level, as did his clear love and enthusiasm for birding.

It was wonderful to meet Killian, and an honor to follow him around the island. He worked tirelessly to get the most possible birds, packing picnic lunches and driving most of every day. His network of friends located new arrivals, and course his knowledge of the birds and the area is astounding...The location is beautiful and the leader outstanding. We saw some hard to find species and had a comfortable trip.
