Wonderful Western Colombia
This has been another fantastic tour to Western Colombia!
Meeting in Pereira, we first spent two full days along the fantastic and scenic Montezuma Road, then did some birding in the Cauca Valley visiting the very birdy Laguna de Sonso, and then stayed four days at the beautiful and very comfortable Araucana Lodge from which we visited different bird feeding stations, as well as the upper Anchicaya road and the lowlands near the little village of San Cipriano.
It’s hard to pick the best birds of the trip amongst 340 wonderful species contacted in only eight field days, but here follow some of the best sightings of the tour:
We also had fantastic views of both Gold-ringed and Black-and-gold Tanager, Munchique Wood-Wren, Spotted Antbird, Chestnut-breasted Chlorophonia, Choco Vireo, Orange-breasted Fruiteater, Baudo Oropendola, Purplish-mantled Tanager, Fulvous-dotted Treerunner, Slate-throated Gnatcatcher, Crested Ant-Tanager, Lyre-tailed Nightjar, Lanceolated Monklet, Apical Flycatcher, Olivaceous Piha, Pacific Tuftedcheek, Tanager Finch and so many more!
Visiting several feeding stations, we saw no less than 36 species of hummingbirds!
And we were overwhelmed by the diversity of flowers, orchids, butterflies, etc. You should definitely come to Colombia to experience all this beauty!
