A Peek Into Puerto Rico

Our Puerto Rico tour delivered an outstanding exploration of the island’s unique birdlife, culminating in a clean sweep of all 19 endemic species. From the cool highlands of Maricao to the coastal wetlands of La Parguera and the rice fields of Lajas, each habitat revealed its specialties.

Memorable encounters included views of Puerto Rican Parrot, the elusive Elfin-woods Warbler, vibrant Puerto Rican Spindalis, and a magical roadside Puerto Rican Nightjar that calmly posed in full view.

Wetland birding produced a major highlight when four Masked Ducks emerged from floating vegetation at Laguna Cartagena, eventually paddling into open water for extended scope views — a scarce and much-wanted prize.

As if the birds were not enough, an unexpected Humpback Whale surfaced just beyond the reef along the north coast, providing a thrilling marine interlude.
