China: Lhasa and the Tibetan Plateau

We’ll begin with a flight from Beijing to Xining where we’ll look for species such as Brown Accentor… …before heading to Huzhu Beishan in search of Daurian Jackdaw… …and the Plateau endemic White-browed Tit. We’ll depart the Xining area and venture onto the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau proper, driving past Lake Koko Nur… …where species such as Brown-headed Gull… …and Richard’s Pipit occur …and Tibetan chortens… …to the mighty Er La Shan Pass. Even mid-summer… …can be desolate here. But rewards such as the poorly known endemic Tibetan Rosefinch… …White-winged Redstart (here a juvenile)… …and Tibetan Snowcock make the journey worthwhile. Later we’ll fly on… …to Lhasa… …where we hope to explore the magnificent Potala… …where we hope to explore the magnificent Potala… …while searching for some of the area’s avian specialties, including Giant Babax… …and Tibetan Eared Pheasant.
