April 27 - May 9, 2019 on Princess Cruises (Star Princess) from Los Angeles, CA to Southeast Alaska to Los Angeles, CA – This 12-day Princess cruise, which goes from L.A. to Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway, then loops through Glacier Bay National Park to Victoria B.C. and returns non-stop to Los Angeles, spends the most offshore time of any of the Alaska cruises. We’ll look for an excellent variety of pelagic species including Hawaiian Petrel, Murphy’s Petrel, Cook’s Petrel, Laysan Albatross, and Kittlitz’s Murrelet among others. Huge numbers of storm-petrels and alcids are likely. The scenery is stunning. A prospective bird list can be found at the link above. Shore outings will be arranged at Skagway and Ketchikan on a shared cost basis for those who wish.

With the long time at sea and the shore trips offered in addition, this tour provided a chance to get birds I would have a hard time finding any other way. The dedication of our leader was complete and the ship was serviceable and provided a superb birding platform.

Paul is indefatigable and so knowledgeable I didn’t miss the internet! He was patient with all of our questions - from the stupid ones to the highly technical, scientific queries. Despite cold and wet and windy and foggy conditions he kept at it and found us our birds.

As a testimonial on how good I think Wings tours are, I booked my NEXT Wings tour before I even completed this evaluation!
