Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear Friends,

We hope you are keeping well and making the best of these strange times. Like many of you we are eager to get into the field and are excited for the renewal of spring, and for some, the beginning of migration. As we make our way into June, COVID-19 vaccine distribution continues in the US, with over 50% of the eligible US population having been fully vaccinated already. This is great news and has many looking beyond with an eye toward traveling again. Of course, the vaccine rollout is in different stages around the world and while it’s still possible to travel internationally, we’re seeing an uptick in interest in our immediate tours within the United States. We are running a number of tours this summer, so it’s worth a look at our North American offerings to see if one (or more!) of these tours might be of interest.

As we move forward into the spring, we’re assessing each tour individually and on a variety of factors, including travel restrictions, local covid-19 rates and transmission, and health policies (such as testing, facemasks, etc). Our plan is to decide whether individual tours will operate or cancel no later than six weeks prior to a tour’s start date. For tours we haven’t yet cancelled, our standard cancellation policy applies (see here).

We will have a cleaning and safety protocol in place for our group while on tour. Our tours have always been small-group oriented and we’ve done our best to maintain space in vehicles (such as, as much as possible, providing everyone with a window). We’ll continue this, of course, and institute additional protocol to maintain a safe tour. For some of our safety protocols, see here

Vaccine and Testing Requirements for COVID: Tour participants and leaders will be required to have completed the full course of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least two weeks prior to the start of the tour.

Our WINGS leaders will continue following the continuously evolving safety protocol for vaccinated travelers as outlined by the CDC in order to keep everyone as safe as possible and we ask participants to review and adhere to these guidelines as well.

Our office staff in Tucson, Arizona has returned in limited capacity to our physical office while some continue to work from home (per updated recommendations by the CDC and state and federal governments). We appreciate your continued patience if it takes us slightly longer than normal to return a message or query. If you have any questions, concerns or definite plan changes, please let us know.

WINGS is proud to have been running quality birding tours for the last 48 years. Birdwatching around the world with our leaders has brought the unparalleled joy of shared experience to many and we hope to continue making these connections and fuel your passion for birdwatching for years to come.

We’re all in this together! We look forward to your presence on a future tour.

With best wishes for good health and good birding from all of us at WINGS,

Matt Brooks
