General Tour Information
ENTERING GREAT BRITAIN: U.S. and Canadian citizens will need a valid passport. Your passport, as a general rule, should be valid for at least six months after the date the tour ends.
HEALTH: There are no major health hazards in Great Britain.
PACE OF THE TOUR: The tour is not a strenuous one: leisurely walking, occasionally over moderately rough terrain, is the only physical requirement. The only exception is the Cairngorm Plateau which should only be attempted by more vigorous walkers.
CLIMATE: June is one of the most pleasant months in Britain, with a fair number of dry, sunny days; however, the weather in the U.K. is always variable (temperatures average from 50 to 70° F), and we can anticipate some rain during the course of the tour.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Our lodgings will vary from standard hotels and country inns to guest houses (including Bryan’s house at Cley). All have private baths or showers. Please note that porterage is not available at most hotels and many of the older ones do not have elevators. Ground-floor rooms cannot be guaranteed but if you find stairs difficult please let us know in advance and we will do our best to secure as many ground floor rooms as possible for you.
DRESS: Casual wear will be appropriate everywhere. There is no need for “dress-up” clothing, even for our theater evenings.
TRANSPORTATION: Transport will be by minibus or small coach.
SMOKING: We request that you do not smoke in the vehicles or when the group is gathered for meals, checklists, etc. If you are sharing a room with a non-smoker, please do not smoke in the room. If you smoke in the field, we ask that you do so well away and downwind from the group.
GENERAL INFORMATION & CONDITIONS OF WINGS TOURS: Please take a moment to read the WINGS General Information & Conditions. This section contains important information about how we conduct tours, e.g., what is included in the tour price, refund and cancellation policies, pace of the tours and other information that will help you prepare for the tour.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A more complete General Information for the Great British Experience will be sent to each registrant on receipt of their booking. Final information with instructions for meeting the group, hotel addresses, etc., will be mailed about three weeks before trip departure. Other news will be communicated as necessary.
