General Tour Information

ENTERING THE UNITED STATES: Non-U.S. citizens will need a valid passport and may need a tourist visa. Consult your nearest U.S. Embassy or consulate for details. Canadian citizens should carry proof of citizenship in the form of a passport or birth certificate.

HEALTH: Birdwatching in New Jersey poses no major health hazards. Mosquitos may be locally numerous but biting insects are generally scarce. The presence of deer ticks carrying Lyme Disease should be considered a possibility so certain precautions are wise. Tucking your pant cuffs under your socks and spraying with insect repellent or wearing rubber “Wellie” boots are the best preventive measures.

PACE OF THE TOUR: This tour will have the pace of a workshop: We’ll move slowly, giving us time to discuss how to identify and remember the bird vocalizations we hear. Although we spend much time on foot, there are no strenuous hikes and all walking will be at a relatively slow pace.

CLIMATE: The weather may vary from cool (40s-50sF) in the morning to warm (70s-80sF) in the afternoon. Rain is always possible.

ACCOMMODATIONS: We will be staying in standard, comfortable motels throughout.

TRANSPORT: Travel will be in a twelve- or fifteen-passenger window van or minivan.

SMOKING: Smoking is prohibited during any group activities.
