Fergus Crystal
Fergus Crystal was born in Scotland but has been living abroad for most of his life, working with birds. After a spell in Israel banding birds and monitoring Griffon Vultures, he worked in Kazakhstan on an Imperial Eagle study. More recently he lived for four years in the south of Japan, where he studied Copper Pheasant and a range of migratory species on the southern islands. Fergus is currently based in Extremadura, Spain, where he is working on a three-year study of Montagu’s Harrier. Fergus is also designing the distribution maps for Helm’s forthcoming Field Guide to Eastern Palearctic Birds.
Fergus has a great love for Japan and its birds and returns regularly to the archipelago.
