Few countries conjure such images of wild, open areas as Mongolia, here at Orog Nuur Lake.

We’ll spend many of our nights camping in tents..

…and in yurts too…

…where we are unlikely to be disturbed…

…and dinner will be taken at the finest table in the house.

…while Red-necked Stints feed along the nearby lake shore…

…and our fellow diners may include the much sought-after Pallas’s Fish Eagle.

On some nights we’ll stay in traditional yurt camps…

…with traditional sunsets.

There is more fine habitat in the forests around Tereldsh…

…home to Pine Buntings…

…and Olive-backed Pipits.

The lakes will hold flocks of dazzling White-winged Black Terns…

…and truly wild Mute Swans, among many hundreds of wildfowl…

…whereas drier habitats will produce Desert Wheatears…

…and Pallas’s Sandgrouse…

…but we’ll have to search the Saxaul Forest to find the Saxaul Sparrow…

…while Upland Buzzards drift overhead.
