Kenya is a very scenic country, much of which is above 5,000 feet. These are the Aberdare mountains that reach 17,000 feet.

We spend time on the slopes of Mt. Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa, and often get clear views of the peak at dawn.

We visit the Great Rift Valley, this being the view from Iten,—

…and we birdwatch at a number of lakes on the valley floor, including flamingo-ringed Lake Nakuru,—

…and fresh water Lake Baringo.

Our accommodation varies from lodges with beautiful highland gardens, such as the Naro Moru River Lodge,

—through those overlooking waterholes such as Mt. Lodge,—

—and others alongside lakes such as the Lake Naivasha Country Club,—

—to luxurious tented camps, such as Kichwa Tembo in the Masai Mara where we spend two nights

Birds are the main focus of the tour of course, and we see well in excess of 700 species. These include many families that are primarily African, representatives of which include—

…Ostrich…

…Secretarybird…

…Black-bellied Bustard…

…Heuglin’s Courser…

…Spotted Thick-knee…

…Crab Plover…

…Speckled Mousebird…

…Blue-headed Bee-eater…

…Ross’s Turaco…

…and Lilac-breasted Roller.

But no trip to Kenya can fail to see large numbers of mammals too.

And these include all the plains animals for which Africa is famous, such as African Elephant,—

…Cheetah…

…Lion…

…Burchell’s Zebra…

…Masai Giraffe…

…Cape Buffalo…

…Black Rhinoceros…

…and some less well-known creatures like Tree Hyrax…

…Warthog…

…and the beautiful Black-and-white Colobus Monkey.
