Red-backed Shrikes are a common roadside bird, testament to the country’s wild areas and thick hedgerows.

At the time of the tour Bee-eaters should be passing through in good numbers, and we’ll visit a small colony, a real treat.

Visits to a vulture feeding station should reveal three species including the giant European (Cinereous) Black Vulture.

Raptors will be a feature every day of the tour and we hope to see Honey Buzzard…

…and watch Hobby feeding on dragonflies.

Fields of wildflowers may temporarily distract from the birding…

…but a flyover Red-rumped Swallow…

…or Pallid Swift will remind us that birds are everywhere.

Woodpeckers are well represented in Bulgaria; this Lesser Spotted is one of seven species possible.

Cape Kaliakra is a beautiful location, full of wildflowers and singing Calandra Larks…

…and it is THE site in Europe for Pied Wheatear.

Further along the coast we’ll search the wetlands for Pygmy Cormorant…

…and Dalmatian Pelican…

…while a trip to the Danube will produce more herons including Glossy Ibis.

On the final day we’ll visit an ancient Bulgarian village, but even here we could enjoy close up views of Dipper.
