We’ll begin in the dry Okanagan Valley where anyone who thinks that sparrows are all dull and hard to identify will be quickly forced to change their minds when presented with a Lark Sparrow…

…or a Black-throated Sparrow, an occasional breeder in Washington.

We’ll then move into the dry interior Okanagan Valley where Ponderosa pine grasslands…

…gives way to denser stands of subalpine fir

Views of the valley below are often stunning as this shot of the town of Osoyoos hopefully illustrates.

From the tranquil Okanagan Valley we’ll drive west to Manning Provincial Park, stopping at the curious Spotted Lake along the way.

At Manning we are surrounded by incredible views…

…and the Forests around Manning hold some very interesting species of birds and we hope to get good views of Boreal Chickadee…

…and American Three-toed Woodpecker.

…as well as several species of very tame wildlife like this Yellow-pine Chipmunk…

…and several inquisitive Clarkâs Nutcrackers.

The coastline supports an endless set of rocky headlands, beaches and coves…

…where we will look for waterbirds such as these comical Pigeon Guillemots.

Then it is back to the mountains, this time the Olympics near Port Angeles, where we’ll explore the Olympic National Park and Hurricane Ridge…

…where we hope to encounter the newly split (from Blue Grouse) Sooty Grouse.

The extension to Westport gives us an excellent chance to encounter true pelagic birds such as Black-footed Albatross…

…and Fork-tailed Storm-Petrel.
