We will begin our journey to the Bahamas on a comfortable twin-engined charter aircraft.

Once out on the Bahamas we’ll be treated to views of the incredibly blue Caribbean Sea…

…as we settle in to our delightful beachside cabins.

The next day we should be treated to a spectacular ocean sunrise…

…and then head out to explore some of the interesting habitat types found on the island; here an usual geologic formation we will encounter inland are Blue Holes, which open up into extensive underwater limestone caves that often stretch for miles under the island to the sea.

The islands are also clothed in open Caribbean Pine forest…

…coastal mangroves…

…and thick, low grasslands…

…that will provide the backdrop for finding some of the Bahama endemics such as these Bahama Yellowthroats; here a male…

…and here a female.

Many range restricted species, rare or absent from the U.S., occur here as well such as this very cooperative Cuban Pewee…

…this Loggerhed Kingbird…

…this Bahama Mockingbird…

…this Black-faced Grassquit…

…this relatively common but often hard to see 22 inch-long Great Lizard Cuckoo…

…this charming and extremely common Greater Antillean Bullfinch.

…and the very attractive nominate race of Western Spindalis.

We’ll also have an opportunity to study some patterns of subspecific diversity, such as the local race of American Kestrel which is extensively white underneath…

…and the “Northrop’s Oriole.

A wealth of North American migrants heading south, such as this Black-throated Green Warbler.

Along the way we’ll surely enjoy some time relaxing at our wonderful lodges, and will undoubtedly come across a few non-avian gems such as this beautiful Atala or if one so desires the truly amazing array of marine life within a few hundred feet of the shoreline.
